6.30 – 9.30 pm
A Compulsive Beauty – A sublime two woman show.
Both artists have completed strong new collections for this much anticipated and first show of the year at Ben Oakley Gallery.
Kim Tong’s practice consists of sumptuous, layered, glazed oil paintings that combine figurative, symbolic and abstract elements, digital prints, drawings and etchings. Kim has exhibited drawings and prints in several Art Council touring drawing exhibitions alongside artists Paul Rego and Rita Donagh.
The intricate limited edition etchings on show are part of a suite called ‘The Pecking Order’ which will be featuring in the first issue of a journal being printed by Ragged Lion Press, publishers of art and poetry. Included in this issue is poetry by Gerard Malanga (who worked alongside Warhol) Charles Plymell and established beat poets.
Whilst at Goldsmiths Kim completed her PhD The Sur(real) Sublime with reference to the work of Louise Bourgeois and contemporary British Art of the 90s.
Yvonne Wayling was born in London and studied Fine Art at Loughton College during the 70’s, where she was tutored by Bill Woodrow. Going on to major in Graphic Design, Yvonne graduated in 1984 as a fellow of the Society of Industrial Artists and Designers.
She has successfully worked in Oils, Acrylics and Mixed Media. Over the last six years she has been honing her impressive skills in spray paint and hand cut stencil work to great effect.
Yvonne’s innovative artworks can be seen on many different mediums. Each piece is exquisitely painted on surfaces as decadent as Champagne bottles and Antique Crystal Glasses, tables and guitars as well as traditional canvas. They are multi layered which offers an unexpected depth & crispness to the portraiture. The works are meticulously finished to give a sharpness and unique beauty of their own.
