One of the exciting areas of running a gallery, is to casually throw out a title that artists are able to respond to, or interpret, how they feel fit. We have done this over the last four years, especially for group shows. This is a time to invite new and emerging artists giving them an opportunity to be hung in an exhibition alongside some of our experienced artists, which in turn creates an exciting engaging group exhibition.
“IT’S THE DOG’S…” is just such an event, with over 30 artists involved. Talented emerging artist ‘FRET’, still only 16 years of age, hangs alongside a John McCarthy (BP Portrait Award winner) or a David Bray, one of London’s leading fine art illustrators.
The Title of this show is an abbreviation of the classic saying “IT’S THE DOG’S BOLLOX” that evolved from the original title of a Scalextric Set. Starting with “BOX STANDARD” (which then became B.O.G standard – I thank you), one could then aspire to the cream of the crop, the more expensive “BOX DELUXE” set, which got South Londonised in the 1940’s into “THE DOG’S BOLLOX” and then further abbreviated to “THE DOG’S” or “IT’S THE DOG’S…”, when referring to a quality item.
So come and make your own mind up.
The preview is on Friday 7th August and the show runs all month, like a whippet.
